About this course

Part of the Concrete Elegance series produced by The Building Centre and The Concrete Centre.

Completed in December 2012, the Co-operative Headquarters in Manchester, designed by 3DReid has received a BREEAM score of 92.25 per cent, which is the highest BREEAM rating of any office building in the UK.The facade is adorned with twisting white columns and a bronze-anodised glazing frame, while the interior boasts a stunning atrium rising the full height of its 15 floors. Energy planning was fundamental to the design from the beginning. For the Co-op, that meant ensuring from the start that the building would have a great deal of thermal mass to retain heat and iron out inefficiencies caused by diurnal temperature fluctuations.
